Preparation:
The installation should always be carried out at the room temperature in which the wallcovering will be used. The room temperature in general should be no less than 18°C.
Sub surfaces shall be clean, dry and smooth.
Only use water-resistant levelling compound when filling in uneven areas. Highly absorbent sub surfaces should first be coated with a mixture of one part adhesive and 3 to 4 parts water.
Walls painted with oil paints are to be sanded with sandpaper.
Ceramic tiles should be sanded with rough emery cloth and made level by applying an appropriate filler.
Use only water dispersed acrylic adhesives. Please note that not all acrylic adhesives are suited for installation of wallguard, and that neoprene based contact adhesive may not be used, since it might cause discolouration. Follow the respective adhesive manufacturers' instructions concerning the quantity of adhesive to use and the drying time.
Seams are welded with welding rod (diameter: 4 mm), which is available in matching colours.
Pipes are recommended to be installed at a minimum distance of 40 mm from each other and walls/corners.
Reverse sheets when possible.
If more than one roll is used, the manufacturing batch number of the rolls must match.
Report material defects to your nearest Tarkett regional office/dealer. Be sure to state the colour and roll number found on the roll label. For markings, only use a pencil.
Installation
Measure the heights of walls and cut lengths of the sheet a few centimetres longer than the required length. Use only pencil when making measurements.
Prior to commencing the installation, prepare the top of the flooring section with levelling compound as shown in the picture or use a pre-fabricated diminishing profile.
1. Installation: apply adhesive
Apply adhesive on the wall for one sheet at a time using a “ lamb’s wool” roller (do not use a roller made of foam plastic).
If you prefer to apply the adhesive with a fine-notched trowel, we recommend that you even out the adhesive over the surface with a roller – otherwise, there is a risk that the trowel pattern in the adhesive will later show through the wallcovering, especially when it is installed over absorbent surfaces.
2. Installation: unroll sheet
Unroll the sheet (with the pattern in a vertical direction).
Rest the roll on your foot.
This makes it easier to guide and properly position the sheet.
3. Installation: roll out
Roll out the sheet little by little into the adhesive and press it firmly using a piece of board with a rounded edge. Work from the top down and from the middle to sides of the sheet.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you remove all trapped air.
4. Installation: use a corner roller
Use a corner roller to press the material into the corner. This allows for a smooth juncture without damaging the material.
5. Installation: edge
The next sheet is installed edge-to-edge (without overlap) with seams opened a maximum of 1 mm.
6. Installation: sharp outside corners
Adhesive is also applied around the corner on the corresponding area of the wall.
7. Installation: adhesive around the corner
- Dust and loose particles must be thoroughly removed.
Highly absorbent or variably absorbent substrates should be sealed with diluted flooring adhesive (1:4).
The sized surface must be completely dry before laying is started.
8. Installation: wetroom
If the wallcovering is installed in a wetroom, we recommend that you heat the sheet with a hot air gun while pressing it against the wall where it overlaps the floor.
9. Installation: grooving a seam
All seams are grooved using a seam grooving tool with a hardened blade or equivalent tool.
The sheets should be laid with a joint gap of about 0.5 mm to facilitate this operation.
10. Installation: welding the seams
Start welding the seams at the ceiling. Use a speed welding nozzle to avoid undesirable changes in temperature. Remember to maintain a constant angle between the welding nozzle and the wallcovering to preheat the joint properly (see sketch). It is advisable to test on a scrape piece if you are doubtful. Do not heat weld until the adhesive is completely dry, normally one day after installation.
11. Installation: welded seams
Welded seams must be allowed to cool to room temperature before they are trimmed. For the best results, trim excess welding rod in two stages. The first step removes most of the excess. The second step is the final trim. The illustration shows trimming with a special trimming knife. The tool first removes most of the excess welding rod, then it is turned to trim any remaining welding rod.
Let the rod cool off before trimming. It is very important to match both the welding temperature and speed of welding to the material’s characteristics in order to avoid damaging the surface layer during the final trim.
